Who We Are
AIMechatroniX is spearheaded by two visionary leaders, Dr. Sean Serdar Kalaycioglu and Dr. Haipeng Xie, supported by a team of key personnel. Their combined expertise drives our innovative spirit in the fields of Robotics, Space Technologies, and Mechatronics.
Dr. Sean Serdar Kalaycioglu
Dr. Sean Serdar Kalaycioglu, a luminary in engineering, law, business, and space programs, currently serves as President at AIMechatronix and a Research Fellow in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University. He presides over the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI) Canada. He is also a recognized Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), an Associate Editor for the Frontier Robotics and AI Journal, and an editor for the Advances in Science, Technology, and Engineering (ASTEJ) Journal.

Dr. Kalaycioglu's academic background is robust, with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, and additional degrees including an MBA from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, and LLB and LLM degrees from the University of London, Queen Mary Law School. He holds an LLM Common Law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School, York University. He is a lawyer waiting to be called to the bar in Ontario.

His career includes pivotal roles such as the Program Manager – Space Technologies at the Canadian Space Agency and Manager of Space and Robotics Programs at Thales Canada. His contributions to the aerospace industry are marked by awards from the Canadian Space Agency and the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME). He has published extensively and served on numerous international committees and organizations, reinforcing his leadership in global space and robotics initiatives. Dr. Kalaycioglu has represented Canada as a member of various committees and organizations, including the American Astronautics Society (AAS) Space Flight Mechanics Committee, the Center of Excellence Scientific Advisory Committee for Broadband Satellite Communication, the International Federation of Automatic Control, and the Standards for Space Automation and Robotics (SARCOS) Program Committee. He has also served as an organizer and chair of several prestigious conferences and sessions, such as the ASME European Robotics Systems Conference, the AIAA and AAS Astrodynamics Conference, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering International Conference on Intelligent Teleoperation.
Dr. Haipeng Xie
Dr. Haipeng Xie is the Chief Technology Officer at AIMechatroniX and co-founder, CEO, and CTO of Dr. Robot Inc., bringing revolutionary changes to the robotics landscape since 2001. His roles extend to being the Director and Head Instructor at DR X Academy, a robotics and coding school for youth and Chief STEM Education Officer at TARENA International.

Dr. Xie's educational foundation is in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a PhD from the University of Western Ontario. His work has significantly contributed to the development of intelligent humanoid robots, autonomous navigation platforms, and advanced robotics for healthcare applications. His research has enhanced the capabilities of the Canadarm2 on the International Space Station, with a focus on dual-arm redundant systems for collision avoidance and cooperative tasks.​
